Originally written in June of 2018, this song was inspired by the memories and experiences of growing up with a dog. It was also inspired by folklore that tells of dogs waiting between worlds to guide their human companions into the afterlife.
lyrics
"I took a walk today, to where we used to play
It's still the same, like a picture in a frame
Me and you, the morning dew
Tennis balls, and old stone walls
A dog and a boy
A dog and a boy
When I first met you, you chewed my shoe
You were a week old, white and gold
You chose me, the way it'd be
I'll be your friend, until the end
A dog and a boy
A dog and a boy
Will you wait, at the gate?
So we can play, on another day
Chase tennis balls, through hallowed halls
Will you wait, at the gate for me?
Will you wait for me?
I took the blame for you, more than I ever knew
When you were afraid, with me you laid
Down your head, on my bed
Licking my face, or wrecking up the place
A dog and a boy
A dog and a boy
Will you wait, at the gate?
So we can play, on another day
Chase tennis balls, through hallowed halls
Will you wait, at the gate for me?
Will you wait for me?
Will you wait for me?
Will you wait for ...
They said in a month or two, cancer would take you
No more tennis balls, and old stone walls
We had so many years, I'll shed no tears
'Cause I'll see you again, my furry friend
A dog and a boy
A dog and a boy
Will you wait, at the gate?
So we can play, on another day
Chase tennis balls, through hallowed halls
Will you wait, at the gate for me?
Will you wait for me?
Will you wait for me?
Will you wait for me?"
